‘Sutton Millennium Project’ June 2000 Painted Steel, Wood 32 x 32 x 95cm
As part of a Millenium Project in Sutton (my home village), the
'Pleasance' - a small piece of common land in the centre of the village -
I offered to design and make the new furnishings. I have installed
a pair of waste bins and benches which were influenced by the shape of
the adjacent war memorial. It was a bold decision of the Parish
Council to use contemporary furnishings in such a
traditional space but it seems to have been received extremely
well by locals and visitors alike. The bins have an ash handle and a galvanised liner to make emptying of the bin easier |

The benches echo the form of the bins with the end posts being of the same shape. The hardwood is Kapur and has been left untreated. | |
