‘Sutton Millennium Project’
June 2000
Painted Steel, Wood
32 x 32 x 95cm

As part of a Millenium Project in Sutton (my home village), the 'Pleasance' - a small piece of common land in the centre of the village - I offered to design and make the new furnishings. I have installed a pair of waste bins and benches which were influenced by the shape of the adjacent war memorial. It was a bold decision of the Parish Council to use contemporary furnishings in such a traditional space but it seems to have been received extremely well by locals and visitors alike.

The bins have an ash handle and a galvanised liner to make emptying of the bin easier

The benches echo the form of the bins with the end posts being of the same shape. The hardwood is Kapur and has been left untreated.
